The Beauty Blogger Tag!

Beauty Blogger Tag

Hi everyone!  How was everyone’s Easter weekend?

It’s been awhile since I have done a tag but I thought it would be something fun to do today. I was nominated by Rahma from Glamorous Etioles for the Beauty Blogger Tag so if you’d like to get to know more about me and beauty, keep reading.

The Rules for this Tag:

Tag the blogger that nominated you
Answer the questions you were given
Nominate 10 bloggers whose blog is about beauty/lifestyle/fashion
Name 10 questions for your nominees to answer
Inform the bloggers you chose that you nominated them

1. Have you ever done yoga and did you like it?

Yes and yes. To be honest though, when I first started yoga, I didn’t care for it.  It wasn’t until I was invited to attend a yoga workshop hosted by Danielle Cuccio that I actually learned to appreciate it.  The Powerflow session was done to a great playlist and I’ve been hooked ever since.

2.What products do you splurge on?

Skincare and makeup of course. 😉

3.What products do you save on?

I would say nail polish mainly because I hardly buy any.

4.What is your best tip for maintaining healthy skin?

Sunscreen is a must for healthy skin, so rain or shine, chemical or physical, make sure to apply it.  Also, keeping your skin hydrated is important as well.

5.What do you use to remove your makeup?

It depends what I have in my skincare arsenal.  Makeup wipes, cleansing oils and cream based cleansers are a few that I like to keep around.

6.How do you maintain your eyebrows (example, threading/waxing)?

Threading, tweezing and sometimes waxing.  My eyebrows grow like wildfire so if I don’t keep up monthly maintenance routine, I need to resort to all three.

7:What is your favorite mascara?

At the moment, I would have to say Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara

8.Where do you buy most of your makeup?

I would say Sephora and online about equally.

9.What is your favorite shade of lipstick?

An unfair question to ask a beauty blogger and beauty addict if you ask me.  However, currently I’m in love with any and all pink/nude shades.

10.What is your favorite perfume?

Ange ou Demon Le Secret by Givenchy.  It’s a bit on the pricey side but I love to buy it when it comes in a set.

That’s it for this tag.  I hope you enjoyed reading a little bit more about me and thanks to Rahma for the nomination!  Check out her blog and give her a follow while you’re at it.  Consider yourself tagged if you want to participate.

5 Ways to Cope with a Bad Day and Stress!

Hi readers!  How was your New Years?  Now that the holiday season is behind us, I should be back to my normal posting schedule, so let’s get to it. 🙂

We’ve all had those days when the moment our alarm goes off, everything seems to go wrong.  We’re running late to a meeting and suddenly our car starts having trouble.  You pop into the store to buy something and suddenly you can’t remember your pin number if your life-or items- depended on it.  Or, sometimes negative and toxic people you have managed to distance yourself from somehow weasel their way back into your life and cause you grief.  Whatever the case may be, you’re likely to wind up with a monster headache and stress.

So, how do you cope?

Here are five things that work for me and can maybe function for you when your day is less than stellar.

1.  Get Moving!

A trip to the gym always helps ease my stress.  Whether it’s running, dancing, yoga, or walking, exert all your energy and focus on this activity.  You’ll instantly feel and look better too!  Beauty bonus: As your heart rate increase, it sends oxygen to your skin and creates a healthy glow.  Who doesn’t want that?

2.  Read!

I love to read and there is no faster way for me to forget my problems once I pick up a good book.  Be it an educational book or murder mystery, immerse yourself in someone else’s world for a bit.

3.  Create a Calming Scent-Sation!

A few drops of lavender essential oil before I take a take a shower or mixed into lotion in conjunction with deep breathing helps ease my mind.  A good friend gave me a doTERRA lavender sample and I fell in love with this.  If you’re reading this Shanyn, thank you! 🙂

4.  Indulge in a Masquerade!

As much fun as donning a mysterious mask and killer dress may be, it might be a weekday so apply your favorite face mask instead.  A DIY version of a facial, it’s a mini treat that can instantly improve your stressed out complexion.

5.  Drink Tea!

Catch up on your favorite shows by curling up with a hot cup of tea.  Choose any blend that has soothing properties such as chamomile and lavender.

If nothing else, you can always sleep it off and wake up to a fresh start in the morning.  🙂

What are your favorite ways to deal with stress and/or a bad day?

How To: Take Care of Your Skin When You’re Sick

Out Sick

I recently had a reader ask me how to take care of your skin when you are sick.

Good question as flu and cold season is here!

When you are sick, the last thing you probably think of is your skin.  You’re feeling weak or tired and any strength you have is most likely spent towards mustering up enough energy to take your medications.  But, think about it for a second.  You’re coughing, sneezing, sweating, etc and it would good to at least try to remove some that off.  If you can take a shower, it’s easy to just cleanse your face and rinse off.  If you don’t have enough energy for that, you can lightly moisten your skin with lukewarm water, apply your cleanser and remove it by using a few cotton rounds-this way you don’t have to leaning over the sink.

The key here is to keep it basic: a gentle cleanser, toner and moisturizer.  That’s it.  Don’t exfoliate, use retinols or AHAs/BHAs.  Why?  Certain medications can cause your skin to become sensitive temporarily, prompting a reaction or irritation when there would otherwise be none.  Once you’re all better, you can slowly reintroduce these ingredients back into your skincare routine.

I hope you found this helpful and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. How do make yourself feel better when you are sick?

When Is The Last Time You Checked-In?

massage

No, I don’t mean the status check-in, but with yourself.  When our daily life screams go, go, go, it’s good to push pause, at least for a couple of minutes.  Sitting at a computer all day, working out, the stress of everyday life, etc can take a toll on us and  even worse, it can lead to chronic inflammation.  Chronic inflammation is not good for your skin, for your overall well-being, it’s not good period.  After a weird week and a bit of lower back discomfort, I decided to book a massage, trying hard not to think twice about it.  Since  I am  the type of person who’s mind is always thinking non-stop (except when I am sleeping), forcing myself to relax is somewhat of a battle, but when I am able to let go, I feel better.  Allotting some time to check-in with myself allows me to think, Is it really worth it to stress over everything?  A tensed demeanor looks good on no one.

Here’s what I learned about massages-it does a good deal more than you might think!-and popular types.

Therapeutic Benefits of Touch/Massage

  • Decreases stress and anxiety

  • Reduces pain and boosts the immune system

  • Can increase air flow in asthmatics

  • Affects brain waves, breathing, circulation and heart rate

  • Relieves muscle tension and pain

Popular Massage Treatments

Swedish Massage

The Swedish massage is the most common in the U.S. and uses long, smooth strokes, kneading and circular movements that can be gentle and relaxing.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massages target the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.  This type of massage benefits those who have chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury.

*Note: People often feel sore for one to two days after

Hot Stone

Heated smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles.  This is a good alternative to deep tissue.

Alternative Massage Techniques

While receiving a massage is very beneficial, there are also instances in which receiving a massage is not a good idea.  If you have open lesions or anything contagious, you need to wait until it’s all cleared up to receive a treatment.  Also, certain health conditions can contraindicate a treatment due to the increased circulation.  Below are a few alternative treatments that can be performed but ALWAYS check in with your physician first to ensure your safety.

Acupressure

Acupressure is an oriental technique of applying pressure to specific points of the body to release muscle tension and restore balance.

Pressure Point

Similar to acupressure, each point has a movement that is repeated 3-6 times.  Sometimes, a blend of essential oils are used.

Foot Reflexology

This technique applies pressure to the feet based on a system of zones and areas on the feet that directly correspond to the anatomy of the body.  Foot reflexology causes relaxation, increased circulation and brings balance to the entire body.

relax Your problems will be there waiting for you so why not take some time to not worry about them?

Smile!

laughter

What’s a quick, easy, and free way to improve your appearance?

Smiling!

You can spend thousands of dollars on skincare items and makeup but if you can’t also master the simple technique of smiling, then you’re missing the bigger picture.  Don’t get me wrong. I love makeup and skincare more than the average person-it’s why I choose to study it!  But at the same time, what good does it do you to have all those products if you have a grumpy demeanor and outlook?

Case and point: Have you ever seen someone who was good-looking but had a scowl that would intimidate Disney villains?  Their vibe yells out unapproachable and can repel others from wanting to converse or be next to them.

Smiling can change our mood and alter a negative viewpoint into a positive one.  It can also help alleviate stress, boost your immune system, lower blood pressure, make you look younger, seem more attractive,  and best of all, it’s contagious.  A smile will draw and bring happiness to you and those around you.

So, smile and laugh because it’s your birthday.  Because you’re alive.  Because you’ve overcome obstacles.  Because you helped someone out.  Because it’s a new day to start over. Because you found time to relax.  Because you have a purpose.  Because you’re unique.

What is your reason to smile?
