ICES Long Beach 2106 Mini Haul!

ices-long-beach

Happy Thursday everyone!  Over the weekend I attended the International Congress of Esthetics and Spa in Long Beach.  It’s a trade show where professionals in the beauty industry can shop and learn about the latest and greatest within our trade and for an esthetician, it’s our version of heaven.

I posted a few snippets on Instagram, but after a while my phone refused to cooperate so I couldn’t really take any pictures. 😦 However, I can share with you some of the items I purchased, for personal use and to also use in my treatment room.

Let’s get started.

pca-skin

PCA Skin

Nutrient Toner

This toner has a, “combination of vitamins, enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids helps to refine pores, remove superficial cells and provide added nutrients to the skin.” It contains pumpkin wine and lactic acid and it smells really good.

Oxygenating Trio Treatment Protocol

This professional treatment has a formulation that contains antioxidants and enzymes that leave skin smooth, purified and glowing. It contains niacinamide, pumpkin seed oil, hydrogen peroxide, lactic acid, glycolic acid and salicylic acid.

 Retexturize Therapeutic Pumpkin Mask Protocol

Another professional treatment, the Therapeutic Pumpkin Mask combines exfoliating pumpkin enzymes and salicylic acid, along with a host of purifying and antioxidant ingredients to leave skin glowing following treatment.

eminence

Eminence

Soothing Chamomile Tonique

This product was to be purchased along with the enzyme peel I bought. It’s “a soothing and calming tonique to use alone or with enzyme, glycolic and lactic peels for all skin types, particularly normal to oily skin. Soothing herbs will restore the skin’s balance.” This has licorice and the smell is very prominent throughout but disappears after a while.

Pink Grapefruit-C Gel

I’ve been experiencing problematic skin lately and this product was recommended. This C Ester-rich veils skin to fight free radicals, environmental factors, and calm the appearance of inflammation. Refreshing peppermint clears and heals while helping to prevent the appearance of blemishes.

Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel 5%

One of the main products I came to the Eminence booth for, this will, “accelerate the exfoliation process to remove dead skin cells, reduce the appearance of pigmentation, fine lines and sun damage. This delicious purée of yam and pumpkin leaves skin looking firm and radiant.  I tried it last night and it had a mild tingling sensation, most likely due to the lactic and glycolic acid in here.  My face feels ad looks a bit smoother today. This item is for consumer use.

le-mieux

Le Mieux Eye Wrinkle Corrector

I received a sample of this last year and I absolutely loved it. It’s a “lightweight cream [that] provides intense moisture to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, bags, and dark circles. Features 7 potent peptides, hyaluronic acid, amino acids, vitamins, and antioxidants to help promote a bright, youthful appearance.”

morphe-35o

Morphe 35O 35 Color Nature Glow Eyeshadow Palette

Of course I could not leave the trade show without purchasing this cult-favorite item.  Just look at all these colors-perfect for fall! *Swoon* I will have an individual review for this soon.

h2t

(h2t) Natural Pumpkin and 30% Multi Fruit Complex Peel

No trade show is complete without this pumpkin peel.  It smells just like a pumpkin pie and I have to keep reminding myself that it’s a chemical and enzyme peel, lol. This is a professional use product that contains a 30% formulation of Glycolic and Lactic Acid with an approx. pH 3.2. Formulated to provide deep exfoliation for facial area, allowing acids to effortlessly penetrate clogged pores and assist in cell proliferation.” I can’t wait to try this and start offering it next month at my spa!

Dermodality Skin Solutions Peptide Plus

Purchased in conjunction with the (h2t) pumpkin peel, this helps to restore vibrancy and health to the skin.  It contains cucumber and melon extracts to help calm skin and to help leave it health, radiant and revitalized.  I used this at night under my moisturizer and I liked the soothing and hydrating effects of it.

HydroPeptide

Cleansing Gel: Cleanse, Tone, Makeup Remover

An all-in-one anti-aging cleanser that gently and effectively removes dirt and excess oil while toning and lifting away all traces of makeup without over-drying.  This gentle cleanser has extra soothing benefits from Chamomile, Allantoin and Cucumber.  You definitely get a whiff of cucumber in this product. I squeeze a little bit of product onto a damp cotton ball and it does a pretty nice job of removing eye makeup.

Power Serum Line Lifting Transformation

Aside from DermaQuest, HydroPeptide has really great peptide serums that make skin feel and look firmer.  It’s definitely on the pricey side but in my opinion, well worth it. This power packed treatment delivers the most advanced peptides, antioxidants and a growth factor activating plant extract to immediately improve skin health.

Power Lift: Advanced Ultra Rich Moisturizer

I had to pick up this moisturizer again as it made my list of favorites last year in September. Read more about it here.

Solar Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30

A physical sunscreen that features titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, this sunscreen is light and has a blend of green tea, aloe and hyaluronic acid.

hydropeptide

That’s all for this year and I’m excited to check out what next year has in store!

See you tomorrow!

Pumpkin: Skin Treat or Trick?

pumpkin

With the commence of fall in full gear and Halloween coming closer, pretty much everywhere we turn we are inundated with the sight of pumpkins and alluring scents of pumpkins laced with cinnamon and clove.  Similarly, around this time, spas often start to offer pumpkin peels.   Although yummy in pies and lattes, what makes pumpkins in skincare so special?

Enzymes!

Pumpkins contain enzymes that “eat” old, dry skin cells-think of them like a Pac-Man- revealing healthy, glowing skin. Pumpkins are rich in antioxidants vitamin C and notably vitamin A- the anti-aging superstar that minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. Pumpkins are also high in beta carotene, infusing skin with vital nutrients, and zinc which purportedly reduces the appearance of inflammation associated with breakouts.

A few brands that include pumpkin in their products are Eminence, Ayurmedic, June Jacobs and Murad.

Pumpkin Peels

Most skincare facilities offer pumpkin peels which are often formulated with glycolic, lactic and/or salicylic acid that provide the following benefits:

  • Improves skin texture
  • Targets hyper-pigmentation and acne
  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production.
  • Helps with the cell renewal process.
  • Reduces signs of aging by softening fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hydrates the skin

Pumpkin peels are a great way to refresh your complexion right before the holidays not to mention they smell amazing!

Fall Favorites!

With fall practically right around the corner, here’s a couple of my favorite things I look forward to this season.

pumpkin

First on the list: pumpkins!  With everything pumpkin flavored or scented abound, one of my favorite pumpkin related items are pumpkin peels.   With glowing skin as a trend, a pumpkin peel can be a great way to attain this look-more about this in a future post!

fall makeup

Fall makeup trends!  Of course you don’t need to adhere to these trends-makeup is after all a representation of your unique style- but here’s a brief overview of what’s ‘in’, this season.

Eyes: Blue shadow seems to be the dominate color followed by metallic silver, bronze and gold liquid shadows and liners. Liner and lashes take inspiration from the 1960’s (think Twiggy).

Lips: Depending on the look you want to exude, lips can range from shades of burgundy, velvet purple or red.  Natural lips were also seen everywhere during Fashion Week.

Cheeks:  Stick to natural shades of blush (or even bronzer) to balance out the eyes or lips.

Lav Tea

Tea!  Although any time is a great for tea, I just love the idea of curling up with a cup of hot tea on a cold night to unwind.  Yes, I am obsessed with anything lavender 🙂

OUAT

TV shows: By far one of my favorite shows, Once Upon A Time!  Fairy tale stories, villains and awesome makeup.  Other shows I am really looking forward to: Revenge, Bones, and Criminal Minds.

BBW

Scents: Season scented soaps to envelop your senses with!

Candles

Candles!  Always a great way to end a day with while sipping tea.

What’s your favorite aspect of fall?

A Beauty-Full Day!

ICES

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Mine was pretty eventful as I attended The International Congress of Esthetics and Spa in Long Beach! It’s an event held  for professionals in the skin care, beauty and wellness industry where you can attend workshops, advanced education seminars and purchase products.  Translation: heaven for a beauty junkie like me!  Here’s a small recap of my day.

Badge

The badge we receive for the day of the event- very nice.

Skin Script

First purchase was at the Skin Script booth.  I got the Pomegranate Antioxidant Cleanser, 15% Vitamin C/Green Tea Serum, and the Ageless Skin Moisturizer, with Aloe and Co-Q10.

SS Peels

Another Skin Script purchase.  This one is their holiday special Spiced Cider Facial which includes the Apple Orchard Enzyme and Autumn Spice Hydrating Mask.  Unlike the Skin Script items above though, you need a license to purchase these.

Ilike

I stopped by the Ilike booth which has  an ‘organic’ line of products.  After speaking to one of the representatives, I bought the Sour Cherry Gel Mask for my combination skin.  *Note: I put organic in quotes because there isn’t a universal standard on what is deemed organic.

EM

The Eminence booth was crowded all the time and filled with on-going demonstrations but I managed to squeeze in to scope out their ‘organic’ line. I ended up getting the Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant (an exfoliator that seems similar to Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant) and Strawberry Rhubarb Masque with Hyaluronic Acid, again a mask for my combination skin.

Brands

Though I received a ton of informational pamphlets and brochures from other exhibitors there, I’m highly interested in checking out these products in the future: (h2t) for their pumpkin peel (it smells AMAZING and will hopefully be ordering it soon), Circadia by Dr. Pugliese, Dermapen, Rhonda Allison and Image Skincare.

Mags

Always great to receive free trade industry magazines!

By the end of the day I was exhausted! It’s a bit overwhelming to be surrounded by soo many different products, demonstrations, information, devices, samples (not pictured here) and people.  I concluded my day with a seminar on the Hydrafacial- a modified version of microdermabrasion- and a facial with an (h2t) 30% pumpkin peel.  Pure bliss.

I will post reviews on the products once I have an opportunity to try them out!  What conventions do you look forward to? IMATS? The Makeup Show? Other?  I’d love to know!
