5 Ways to Cope with a Bad Day and Stress!

Hi readers!  How was your New Years?  Now that the holiday season is behind us, I should be back to my normal posting schedule, so let’s get to it. 🙂

We’ve all had those days when the moment our alarm goes off, everything seems to go wrong.  We’re running late to a meeting and suddenly our car starts having trouble.  You pop into the store to buy something and suddenly you can’t remember your pin number if your life-or items- depended on it.  Or, sometimes negative and toxic people you have managed to distance yourself from somehow weasel their way back into your life and cause you grief.  Whatever the case may be, you’re likely to wind up with a monster headache and stress.

So, how do you cope?

Here are five things that work for me and can maybe function for you when your day is less than stellar.

1.  Get Moving!

A trip to the gym always helps ease my stress.  Whether it’s running, dancing, yoga, or walking, exert all your energy and focus on this activity.  You’ll instantly feel and look better too!  Beauty bonus: As your heart rate increase, it sends oxygen to your skin and creates a healthy glow.  Who doesn’t want that?

2.  Read!

I love to read and there is no faster way for me to forget my problems once I pick up a good book.  Be it an educational book or murder mystery, immerse yourself in someone else’s world for a bit.

3.  Create a Calming Scent-Sation!

A few drops of lavender essential oil before I take a take a shower or mixed into lotion in conjunction with deep breathing helps ease my mind.  A good friend gave me a doTERRA lavender sample and I fell in love with this.  If you’re reading this Shanyn, thank you! 🙂

4.  Indulge in a Masquerade!

As much fun as donning a mysterious mask and killer dress may be, it might be a weekday so apply your favorite face mask instead.  A DIY version of a facial, it’s a mini treat that can instantly improve your stressed out complexion.

5.  Drink Tea!

Catch up on your favorite shows by curling up with a hot cup of tea.  Choose any blend that has soothing properties such as chamomile and lavender.

If nothing else, you can always sleep it off and wake up to a fresh start in the morning.  🙂

What are your favorite ways to deal with stress and/or a bad day?

Fall Favorites!

With fall practically right around the corner, here’s a couple of my favorite things I look forward to this season.

pumpkin

First on the list: pumpkins!  With everything pumpkin flavored or scented abound, one of my favorite pumpkin related items are pumpkin peels.   With glowing skin as a trend, a pumpkin peel can be a great way to attain this look-more about this in a future post!

fall makeup

Fall makeup trends!  Of course you don’t need to adhere to these trends-makeup is after all a representation of your unique style- but here’s a brief overview of what’s ‘in’, this season.

Eyes: Blue shadow seems to be the dominate color followed by metallic silver, bronze and gold liquid shadows and liners. Liner and lashes take inspiration from the 1960’s (think Twiggy).

Lips: Depending on the look you want to exude, lips can range from shades of burgundy, velvet purple or red.  Natural lips were also seen everywhere during Fashion Week.

Cheeks:  Stick to natural shades of blush (or even bronzer) to balance out the eyes or lips.

Lav Tea

Tea!  Although any time is a great for tea, I just love the idea of curling up with a cup of hot tea on a cold night to unwind.  Yes, I am obsessed with anything lavender 🙂

OUAT

TV shows: By far one of my favorite shows, Once Upon A Time!  Fairy tale stories, villains and awesome makeup.  Other shows I am really looking forward to: Revenge, Bones, and Criminal Minds.

BBW

Scents: Season scented soaps to envelop your senses with!

Candles

Candles!  Always a great way to end a day with while sipping tea.

What’s your favorite aspect of fall?

The Teas Have It!

green-tea

Chances are at some point in the day, we treat ourselves to a comforting sip of tea, especially when the weather outside is cold. Green tea seems to be a popular drink of choice but what exactly is it that makes this ingredient so stellar? Polyphenols.

Green tea, harvested from the Camellia sinensis plant, contains polyphenols which are antioxidants that protect the body from oxidative damage. Specifically, the polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) naturally found in green tea, is what makes green tea extremely effective as an antioxidant and also an anti-inflammatory.  Research has shown that green tea polyphenols are potent suppressors of carcinogenic activity from UV radiation.  As a result, it protects skin from UV-induced damage such as sunburns and photoaging.

As a topical ingredient in skincare, green tea is ideal for common skin concerns.  In acne and other inflammatory conditions, it can be used as an anti-inflammatory; in aging, it provides excellent antioxidant properties against sun damage.

So what about white tea?  The same benefits from green tea apply, except white tea is said to have a higher concentration of polyphenols.

Happy Tuesday!
